When Bobby Burgess was initiated into Beta-Omicron Chapter, California State University-Long Beach, in 1960, he was already nationally recognized. In 1955, at the age of 13, Burgess was selected as one of the original Mouseketeers on Walt Disney’s TV show The Mickey Mouse Club.
When the series ended, Burgess enrolled at California State University-Long Beach, where he entered a dance contest held by Lawrence Welk with a childhood friend and dance partner. They won first prize and were awarded with an appearance on the nationally televised Lawrence Welk Show. That appearance led to others, and eventually the pair were hired as permanent members of the show.
